How to Get a Job Referral

A practical checklist you can apply before sending any referral request.

A strong job referral request is short, specific, and easy for an employee to action. The fastest path is to prepare your profile and request packet before asking for help.

1. Prepare a clean profile

Keep your name, headline, and resume current. Your default resume should be role-ready and formatted as PDF.

2. Choose one exact job posting

Include the external job URL and title. Avoid broad asks like “any software role.” Specific requests are easier to process.

3. Write a tight pitch (under 300 chars)

Focus on role fit and impact. Mention relevant experience and expected value, not a full bio.

4. Track status and follow up once

Monitor Pending / Under Review / Referred / Declined. If no pickup happens by SLA expiry, submit a better-targeted request.
